do you feed your 5 month old baby a whole jar of baby food (stage 1) or 1/2 jar?

Question: do you feed your 5 month old baby a whole jar of baby food (stage 1) or 1/2 jar?
this is ONLY for people that feed their babies; NOT for people who want to talk abou the “only feed 6 month old baby jar food” speech.

now that that’s out of the way, i can explain further. i only feed my son during dinner. just to get him use to jar food. he mostly drinks bottle and eat rice cereal. i’ve been feeding him 1/2 jar food for about 1 month, 1x a day. he WAS in the 90% for weight and my fiance and i got a scolding from our doctor, and NOW he’s in the 75%, since we stopped feeding him so much formula. i dont want to over feed my son.

Breastmilk/Formula should be baby’s main source of nutrition for the 1st year.

At 5 months, I was still feeding my baby only half a jar of stage 1 food a day, rice cereal once a day and breast milk. She didn’t really get excited about solid foods until she was 4 months, though. By the time she was 6 months old, I was doing about a jar a day.

I also feed my daughter who will be 5 months in a few days. I only did so since she is able to sit on her bottom with support, and she shows sign of wanting to eat more than just formula. She does not like rice cereal at all that is why I started her on baby food. I first gave her about 4 spoons full, 2x a day. Now I give her half a jar every feeding. Some days it would be 2x or 3x just depends on how she is feeling. I know I am not overfeeding her since she is average for her size and is a happy baby.

You don’t want to stop feeding him the jar if he is enjoying it as well. Give him as much as he is willing to take even if he eats the whole jar. It will not harm him Have you tried mixing any fruits in his rice cereal as well?

My kids ate a whole jar by 5 months. My babies doctor encouraged feeding my kids jar food I hate the speech your reffering to. I would suggest feed you baby as much as they want till they are done and discard the rest your baby knows when they’ve had enough Good Luck

But that was addition to the formula. The formula is most important right now because that’s where he gets most of his nutrients/vitamins. The jarred stuff is just secondary.
