Feeding my baby cheese?
Question: Feeding my baby cheese?
I’ve looked online to try and find the answer but with no luck. All I could find was that yes, I could feed him cheese. What I wanted to know was HOW to feed my son, who is 7 months old, cheese. Maybe I’m thinking about the wrong kind of cheese (a block of cheese, like colby)? I can’t imagine him eating it as a “finger food” as suggested, and not choking.
Wow, this question had the word cheese in it too many times….
Any suggestions and advice welcome!

Well, get him a block of cheddar cheese, it’s really good. Cut it into tiny pieces, it melts fast in the mouth.
My daughter is 13 months old and I’ve been giving her pieces of cheese since around 8 months old. She loves it.. It’s also very nutritious for him.
EDIT: Also, this is a great way for them to learn how to self-feed. I put the pieces in a bowl, and she eats them from there by herself.

my son was still eating pureed baby food at that age. he wasn’t ready for all that. but i guess grated?.
what the french, toast.
I mean, really, we need to do away with the TD. What did I say wrong? My son wasn’t ready for food. All he really wanted was the breastmilk. Sorry, if he wasn’t exactly like your babies. Sheesh.
My son also breast fed for 2 full years. Bring on the thumbs down.
Just cut it into a stick, about the size of a broccoli spear or a toast finger, and let him have at it. That is what I did with my boys, even at that age(we never did purees or mashed foods). Babies have natural defense reflexes to keep them from choking if they manage to “bite off more than they can chew”.

I personally dont think giving a baby under a year old any milk products. They have a hard time digesting it. milk products are one of the top foods that cause food allergies.
there is cheese sticks for them shaped into a finger
i used to mix in cottage or cream cheese into meals for our son he used to love pasta with cottage cheese
also feta in small chunks breaks apart in their mouth
i also grate cheese and stir it through
I think cultured dairy products like cheese, yogurt and kefir are recommended to be introduced between 8-10 months.
I buy organic white cheddar and grate it for my son… he loves it. If you live outside of north america you may be surprised to know that our cheddar cheese is ORANGE. Why??? who knows, it’s the stupidest thing ever. I have to really hunt around to find cheese that is not artificially dyed. There’s like, 1 brand in my local supermarket that carries white cheddar. So weird.
But I digress….
to answer the question… grated or small cubes …
EDIT- wow what’s with the thumbs down…. guess I offended all those people out there who enjoy some good ol’ artificial color in their dairy products??! LOL these people probably skip over the orange cheddar and go straight for the processed cheese slices- even tastier
pps- CULTURED dairy can be ok for a child with no history of allergies. The active cultures in yogurt and kefir for example, make milk proteins easier to digest. Straight up cows milk should be offered after 1 yr of age.
I grated it so it was easier to eat and pick up! Any kind is fine, though my son preferred ‘stronger’ flavored cheeses.
