What is the best form of vegetarian protein to feed to a baby?

Question: What is the best form of vegetarian protein to feed to a baby?
I am a new vegetarian and I have a 7 month old baby! Now is the time that I need to start thinking about introducing proteins into her diet. I don’t know where to begin. I mean, I know beans are the best source for her, but how do I prepare them to make them easy for her to eat? What are other great sources of protein for her? She eats just about anything I feed her. Can someone please help me?

Being a veg is great and all. I’m one but when it came to my baby I knew that she needed more in her diet so I fed her meats when she was young. Now that shes 5 she can make the choice to not eat meat. She doesnt like to but I still have her once a week because she needs to be healthy.

We aren’t vegetarians, but I’d marinate tofu in Tamari sauce, then slice it very thin and cook it in a little olive oil in a cast iron skillet. Then I’d mash it up when it was cool and feed it to him. To this day he loves tofu. Mashed up kidney beans were a big hit too!

poor kid… let her eat meat and be healthy… a friend of mine did the veghead thing for her baby and he has been the sickest baby for the past 3 years

You could try cooking the beans and then mashing them… I guess that would be the easiest way to feed them to her.. You don’t want to add too much to them since she maybe allergic to an additive.. Or try a homemade “hummus” that’s just ground chickpeas with olive oil… That’s the only protein besides soy protein.. Although, that would be a good choice as well…. I would consult a doctor BEFORE starting your baby on a purely vegan diet.. As lack of whole proteins- can retard growth. I would be very careful in giving a baby/toddler an all vegan diet…

    Good luck

American’s consume way too much soy that can cause early puberty in children. Adults can consume tofu once a day and be fine but if you can avoid giving it to your baby I would. At 6 months your baby should only be eating fruits and veggies and formula or Breast milk. At nine months you can introduce yogurt and meat. Hope that helps. Ask your doctor what is right for your baby.
