Question: What should a vegan track and field high school student eat that is in training?
I am sixteen and in high school. I am also Vegan. I am in training for competition and am trying to maintain a solid weight, yet at the same time loose a few pounds. I am at my recommended weight for height and age, but a few pounds lost wouldn’t be a bad idea…
Any advice to a diet that I can easily stick to is greatly appreciated!!

Well Tofu is usually a good answer, its full of protein and its filling without eating too much. Also, if you eat brocolli and a vegetable called gaulan (pronounced GUY-LAN), those are very healthy and filling.

If I were you, I’d check out some vegan forums online. Here are a couple specifically designed for fitness. Best to get advice from them or from the library- the book “Becoming Vegan” has a section on how to eat if you are an athlete.

i always eat lots of nuts, for some healthy fats. also helps to keep your calorie intake up, because when your burning 600+ calories per practice, its important. i try to stay away from the soda.
and eating a banana the day of or a little bit before my race always seems to help me. its light on the tummy but gives you some extra energy.
also quinoa would be good as well, to keep your protein up.
tofu
rice
pasta
vegan cheese
veggies
fruits
salads
beans
nuts
