A basic cake isn’t all that unhealthy to start with.
Using real butter and real eggs provides certain nutrients in both.
When you start piling on the frosting is when you add insult to injury.
You could use whole wheat flour, or lower the fat content by substituting purred fruit, skip the icing and sprinkle with powdered sugar or simply use artificial sweetener to start with or you could just not worry about a piece of cake now and then.
If it not on your diet daily, a nice slab of cake won’t hurt you and is a nice indulgence.

My whole family is vegan and it would be nice to be able to buy a cake every so often for birthdays and stuff and not have to make them all the time. The cake needs to be vegan- dairy, egg, honey and any animal product free. Any leads are greatly appreciated!

Good question!
I am not really sure, but you might want to check out Bloomington to see if they have a place that might do that. (college towns tend to have more variety than others).
You could try Party Mart. It’s a party store in Columbus (on Home Avenue). They bake the most DELICIOUS cakes…I have used them on many occasions. They might have a vegan version. (I’m not making any promises on this one….their cakes are really rich!)

My birthdays coming up and my parents are wondering where they could buy me a vegan birthday cake. I live in east side Phoenix, so not too far from here please. The only vegan place I know is on like 36th st and Indian School (or somewhere near) but that’s a restaurant I think, so they probably won’t have a cake you can buy?

Hungarian Flourless Walnut Cake —
INGREDIENTS
12 ounces walnuts
2 teaspoons baking powder
6 egg yolks
5/8 cup white sugar
6 egg whites
1 pint heavy whipping cream
1/8 cup chopped walnuts, for garnish
DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9 inch springform pan. Grind walnuts until very fine. Add baking powder and set aside.
In a large bowl, whip the egg yolks with the sugar until pale yellow in color. Beat in the ground walnut mixture.
In a separate CLEAN bowl, with a CLEAN whisk, whip the egg whites until stiff. Quickly fold 1/3 of the egg whites into the yolk mixture, then add the remaining whites and fold in until no streaks remain.
Pour into a 9 inch springform. Bake in preheated oven for 60 to 75 minutes, or until top of cake springs back when lightly tapped. Cool on wire rack.
When cake is cool, slice horizontally into 3 layers. Whip the cream until stiff, and spread generously between layers, on top and on the sides of the cake. Sprinkle chopped walnuts on top for decoration.

i think in some stores you can get special types of flour that vegans use. you can also check websites for vegan recipes and they’ll tell you what types of ingredients to use…or you could just tell her it is a vegan cake. who could tell if there was egg and milk in there or not?! haha just joshin.

Duncan Hines cake mix appears to be vegan friendly except for the eggs you are supposed to enter into the mix. I was hoping there is a quick fix for this since I would prefer not to bake the cupcakes completely from scratch. Thank you.
