Is anybody here a vegetarian from the Philippines?

Question: Is anybody here a vegetarian from the Philippines?
I have been vegetarian for three years but I have yet to meet another Filipino vegetarian. Does anyone know anyone?
To perhaps have a support group, to share news. All the vegetarians I know are from halfway across the world. If you’re vegetarian, I think you get the picture.

How can I go from vegetarian to vegan?

Question: How can I go from vegetarian to vegan?
I want to become a vegan, but the only hard part is taking out dairy and still get vitamins that I need and what not. any tips on becoming vegan would be super helpful

Answer:

Answer by LOLwut
All the vitamins you need are found abundantly in the plant kingdom, in vegetables, seeds, nuts, legumes, and fruits.

As a reminder, veganism is ethical opposition to animal commodification and the resulting lifestyle.
Vegans don’t:
buy or consume meat, eggs, dairy, honey, or foods containing them
buy or wear fur, leather, wool, silk, or clothing trimmed in them
buy or use consumer products manufactured by corporations whose distributors conduct animal toxicity tests
buy or use animals to be used as “pets” from breeders/pet stores
fund charities which finance the use of animals in medical experimentation
frequent zoos/circuses/rodeos/aquariums/other venues where animals are held in captivity or forced to perform for human entertainment/profit

Since you mentioned only diet, and a small part at that, I’m wondering if you might be talking about strict vegetarianism.

If you’re super-addicted to dairy milk, just replace it with non-dairy milk. But you don’t actually need to.

Question: wat low cal/no cal options can i get from starbucks or dunkin donuts?

Answer:

Answer by khan
Dunkin Donuts has a VERY high calorie menu, but they do have lo-fat Blueberry Muffins which are quite low in calories, and are actually delicious. As for their donuts, if you are really craving one, the French Crullers are light for a donut.

Don’t know about Starbucks though.

Has your mental/physical health gotten better from becoming a vegetarian?

Question: Has your mental/physical health gotten better from becoming a vegetarian?
I’m thinking about becoming a vegetarian or at least pescetarian, but I need some motivation.

Answer:

Answer by A Girl
I’d give it a try and see how you feel. Some people just don’t feel healthy without meat in their diet, and some people really feel more energized and healthy after going vegetarian or vegan. It depends on the way your stomach breaks down different kinds of food.

But either way, it is worth a shot. If you can be vegetarian/vegan and be healthy, you will help end unnecessary suffering :-) and that’s great motivation

yes, if you don’t eat the right kinds of foods. I know of vegetarians that gain weight because they eat too many carbohydrates…I was one of them.

It’s not very difficult, really. I did it cold turkey, and that worked great. If you want, though, you could cut out eggs before you stop eating dairy or vice versa.

Do Vegans only eat plant foods grown in soil made from other dead plants?

Question: Do Vegans only eat plant foods grown in soil made from other dead plants?
We all know that most dirt is made up of previously living animals, plants and insects. So, if grown in soil that consists of dead animals and insects, it absorbs nutrients from them, so therefore the plant food is not entirely vegan.

Also, with genetically modified foods, how do most Vegans differentiate? There are some GMO foods that are being spliced with animal genes, like frogs into potatoes for example…

Answer:

Answer by Boarder Chick
whoo! that is a great question I bet half of the vegans in the world never thought of! I’m guessing that they eat from both kinds of soil.

if i create a 500 calorie deficit but get most of my calories from fat will i put on weight?

Question: if i create a 500 calorie deficit but get most of my calories from fat will i put on weight?
i’m basically wondering if it matters whether i get my calories from fat, carbs, etc. in respect to weight management/loss.

will a 300 calorie chocolate bar (with 30g fat) be worse than a 300 calorie (0 fat) bowl of cereal for weight loss?

does the fat i eat in food simply get deposited in my fat stores, ie: love handles/gut?

Answer:

Answer by chickencoop42
There are two different kinds of “fat” you’re talking about. The “fat” that accumulates on your body (i.e. love handles) is because of an excess in calories, which your body stores, and uses later, as it needs to. The fat that you take in (from your chocolate bar) doesn’t necessarily become body fat, but the more foods that you eat that are calorie dense, the more likely it is to become stored as fat. This happens because although the chocolate bar is calorie dense it doesn’t necessarily have enough volume to keep you satiated.

For weight loss, I would go with the bowl of cereal, for one, it has grains, which your body needs for digestion and will help you feel fuller, longer. For two, you only really want to take about 30% of your daily calories from fat. You don’t really say what the rest of you diet is based on.

If you’re wondering what type of diet is best for permanent weight loss, I would talk to a doctor or nutritionist. For the best luck, though, you want a diet that supplies you with plenty of vegetables, lean meats, low salt, and plenty of water. Also, if you try and eat 5-6 small meals a day, about 3 hours apart, it can keep you from overeating, and keep your metabolism burning.
