Am I spending too much money or is my husband being too hard on me?
Question: Am I spending too much money or is my husband being too hard on me?
I feel like crying because I feel a lot of pressure to do things JUST RIGHT or else he’ll make me feel guilty for spending too much. I am a stay at home mom who mostly manages our grocery money. I get $ 100 a week to spend on food (we are a family of three). I have been couponing for awhile now to save on money and it works, but I’m still new at it and sometimes in tears after a shopping a trip if I spend even $ 80. My husband says whatever money is leftover from the $ 100 is mine to keep so I’m always trying to find ways to save money so that I can have money to save up for my own things. He’s been getting really upset with me lately for buying little things here and there such as: a 14 pk of toilet paper for $ 4.99, frozen pizza rolls for .29 each, a pack of pens forr 1.99, and rice for .66 each. These are things spent outside of the $ 100 he gives me, but things that we do need or are so cheap its kinda dumb not to buy them while they are still on sale! Last week I spent a little too much and ended up having to skip the produce section so we had no apples or bananas or snacks (which is a big deal when you’re vegan!) When I told him this he said, “Well next time you’re hungry take a bite out of your hair since you had enough money to buy your hair products that you needed.” His reasoning was “What’s more important hair spray or food?” I told him that I freaked when they totaled the price and it was more than I expected so I got too scared to put stuff back and I started grabbing random things (my fruits and veggies) and he said he understood but still pushed his point that because I went over the budget we can’t buy anything else for food. Last night we both saw a deal that got us pizza bread for .29 each and he got real excited and said “Yea baby! Go buy that! And go get some milk cause we need that too.” So I went and there was no pizza bread, but I got the milk and started thinking about some ice pops so I asked him if we could get some. I told him the prices and he said it was okay. Well today I went back to the store to see if the pizza bread was still there and it was and I got it plus a pack of pens because we have NOTHING to write with at home. I also got the rice because they were soooo cheap. I called him to check with him that it was okay and he said fine. Then I called him to ask him if he wanted me to stock up on the toilet paper for $ 4.99 and he said “I tell you not to spend money and what do you do? You spend money.” Which really confused me and hurt me because he told me I could buy stuff and now he’s venting it out on me. The problem is that I am really good at blaming myself for things (daughter of an alcoholic) so I will easily accept blame, but it also makes me very angry when I feel I’m accepting blame for something I’m not doing. So I get a mix of being mad at myself and being mad at him and its really hard. I don’t know what to do. Am I spending too much money by buying things here and there outside of the budget? Or am I doing the right thing by asking him if its okay and he’s just being too hard on me about money?
I thought I’d also add a note for those who think I should get my own job. I would if I could but I have this thing called Chiari Malformation and it makes it really hard for me to hold a stable job because some weeks I’m fine and other weeks I get really sick and can’t do much. Otherwise I would work.

How hard is it to be a Vegan outside of your home?
Question: How hard is it to be a Vegan outside of your home?
I’m a Vegetarian, and I want to become a Vegan.
However it is hard to decide because it is difficult to give up many foods outside of my home- like in restaurants or dinner parties.
How hard is it, really?
Answer:
Answer by Jen
It’s been pretty hard, but I’ve just started. There are no Vegan options at the restaurants nearby. Everything within five or ten minutes is fast food. Within twenty to thirty minutes, you’ve got a lot more options, but all of the ones I’ve checked (about a dozen) have nothing Vegan on the menu except for plain salads.
Not looking forward to going out to eat Thursday for Christmas. Especially not looking forward to the Christmas get together here on Saturday where the company brings chicken wings and pizza loaded with meat (and a special small mushroom and cheese pizza for the one person who’s not meat-crazy).

How hard is it to be a vegan?
Question: How hard is it to be a vegan?
I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian, and an aspiring vegan. How hard (and expensive) is it to become a vegan?
Answer:
Answer by maggie
Well, my household is a 3 person household, myself, my husband and my daugther (10 months old) and we spend roughly 300 dollars a month for food; that isn’t counting if we want to go out, but it’s rare that we go out for food. I shop at Whole Foods for organic grains and beans, I sometimes purchase organic tofu and stuff from Trader Joe’s, and I purchase hard-to-find vegan products for much cheaper than Whole Foods at this Japanese market near my house, they have really cheap tofu and soy products, udon, miso paste, and tons of great snacks etc. As for being vegan, I have not missed meat, but I do miss cheese a lot. I don’t miss eggs at all, not even a bit. I used to miss egg salad but I have found a vegan egg salad recipe that made it all much better. As for cheese, once in a blue moon I purchase a vegetarian organic tub of blue cheese and enjoy it. Nobody’s perfect.

How do you maintain a vegetarian diet when your husband and kids are die hard meat eaters?
Question: How do you maintain a vegetarian diet when your husband and kids are die hard meat eaters?
My husband and my son both think the world is going to come to an end if we don’t have meat daily. I just eliminated poultry out my diet, and I have been pork and red meat free for a few months now. I do plan on eating fish occassionally (I love fish anyway) but certainly not every day. Are there any vegetarian meals you can suggest? Or, does anyone know of a good vegetarian/pescatarian cookbook you can recommend?

if you do the cooking it should be up to you what you cook, if they dont like it they can lump it, simple as that

How hard is it to transition to becoming a vegetarian? What are some filling vegetarian meals?
Question: How hard is it to transition to becoming a vegetarian? What are some filling vegetarian meals?
I’m absolutely love eating meat. Plus, I’m very active and need to eat filling meals.
However, I’ve been reading a lot about how eating meat is bad for world food supplies and the environment. For example, it takes 6 pounds of grain to make 1 pound of meat.
Basically I’m interested in becoming a vegetarian or at least cutting back on my meat intake. I’m asking this to vegetarians who have big apetites and used to be carnevours: How difficult is the transition? Also, what are some good vegetarian meals?
Answer:
Answer by euphoricmartyr
If you want filling meals, make things with beans. Bean chili is quick and easy to make, or bean soup, beans and rice, bean enchiladas, etc. Vegetarian lasagna is also a good meal, or vegetable pot pies. I didn’t have too hard of a time transitioning, because I made sure to figure out beforehand what I was going to eat. If you have a plan, it makes it a lot easier.
