What is a good vegan substitute for honey?

Question: What is a good vegan substitute for honey?
I was thinking either maple syrup or corn syrup. I’ve never tried either, but I was thinking it might be good for a smoothie sweetener. I just want to add a little sweetener to my smoothies. The recipe calls for honey, but I realized that honey is not vegan.

Maple Syrup and Corn Syrup are good choices. Molasses may also work. It has a stronger flavor so it may overpower some things but it would work for the vegan aspect.

There are various things you can use but I’ve found Ener-G Egg Replacer to be the best. If you can’t find it, you can use potato and/or tapioca starches and warm water.

How can I substitute foods into my new raw and vegan lifestyle without missing out on my favorites?

Question: How can I substitute foods into my new raw and vegan lifestyle without missing out on my favorites?
I’m getting into a raw and vegan lifestyle but sometimes miss my favorite flavors. I found a few good substitutes for healthy raw food and vegan foods here http://www.rawontheroad.com/raw-foods-for-weight-loss-raw-food-substitutes/ but want to know if anyone out there has other favorite vegan or raw food substitutes.

I know this answer won’t completely resolve your question, but I think a lot of the best recipes are ones that aren’t pretending to be something else. For instance, in Veganomicon, a vegan cookbook I highly recommend, they have a recipe for Pumpkin Baked Ziti, which is delicious! And it resembles nothing in the Carnivore World! haha

Other than that though, the internet and health food stores are a good source for other substitutes. Good luck!

What is the best vegetarian gelatin substitute?

Question: What is the best vegetarian gelatin substitute?
So, I just found out that gelatin is made pigs feet, (or cow bones, so say). I am trying to cut back to one serving of meat per week, and was wondering what the best vegetarian (or vegan) gelatin substitute is. I don’t eat a lot of it (I don’t like jello) but there is this special kind of white jelly salad that I really like. Thanks for the answer!

What can I use as a substitute for eggs in a vegan recipe?

Question: What can I use as a substitute for eggs in a vegan recipe?
I’ve gone vegan, and I’d like to bake some of my favorite cakes and cookies, but the majority of the recipes call for eggs. What can I use to replace the eggs? I’ve heard that I can just leave them out, but that I may end up with a cake that is on the dry side. Help!
Thank you!

Q&A: What is your favorite vegan chicken substitute?

Question: What is your favorite vegan chicken substitute?
I’m looking for “from scratch” recipes or just a brand of frozen stuff.

I have found it hard to find a decent substitute for chicken. One frozen brand that I tried and liked a lot ended up having eggs AND milk in it and so I tried one brand of dairy free and I could not enjoy it. I’ve mastered a “chicken salad” with chickpeas but I would love some great vegan chicken nuggets sometime!

Answer:

Answer by Spock
well these are just general brands
but i’ve tried boca chik’n patties they taste so close to really chicken patties it is crazy, they also have vegan chik’n nuggets which im assuming would taste just like the patties.

also morning star has some chicken strips, for salads and stuff, they are pretty good, kinda have a ramen noodle taste to them, but then i love ramen noodles.

also you might want to try getting some textured vegetable protein because in my opinion it has a similar texture to chicken, and then get some vegan chicken flavoring, i got some at whole foods in the “bulk” area or whatever it is called, and play around flavoring it.

What can be a homemade vegan substitute for Eggs in baking?

Question: What can be a homemade vegan substitute for Eggs in baking?
Friends, I am baking for a local Buddhist temple, and I was allowed to use dairy. But I cannot proceed because I cannot use eggs–Buddhist monks are banned from eating eggs.

I plan to bake dinner rolls (a yeast bread) and cake (batter or quickbread). What vegan substitutes can I make at home? PLEASE, nothing pre-prepared or fancy products from the store. Those cannot be found where I live. Thanks.

Answer:

Answer by beebs
Ener G foods has an egg replacer. You can also replace an egg by combining 1 tbs of ground flax seed in 3 tbs warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes. It will gel up and become the exact consistancy of an egg. Double the quantity according to how many eggs you need. Good luck!
