How do I tell my meat-loving parents I want to be a vegetarian without them getting angry?
Question: How do I tell my meat-loving parents I want to be a vegetarian without them getting angry?
Im 14 and I want to become a lacto-ovo vegetarian, I’ve been doing a lot of research and I’m really confident that I want to do this. The problem is, I’m scared to tell my meat-loving parents because I know they won’t support me (lets just say they aren’t exactly the most open-minded people ever). Any advice on how I can convince them peacefully? Have any of you ever had similar problems?

Question: Some altmed”skeptics”state they support conventional therapy as alt med failed them, is that likely scenario?
In other words, do you think many conventional medicine patients did in fact first try alternative medicine but were not relieved of their ailments ( so they switched to conventional ) ? Or, is the reverse situation more likely?
Apropos – You are continually using questions I post simply as a vehicle to rant. Please do it elsewhere

Answer by SethSpeaks
Both things happen. I stopped using conventional medicine when it failed me and my health is amazing now. I don’t even catch a cold. But I also have a friend who was an alt medical practitioner who had a health crisis that completely disintegrated her faith in alternative medicine. So it depends on the person, what their challenges are, and so on.

I get those too. I’m not fat either, I get it on the sides of my stomach.
You should use like pregnancy stretch mark cream. It doesn’t matter how much it costs. (They all worked for my stretch marks.I think they are all the same.)

Can a teenager who only eats the meat his/her parents make them eat, be considered vegetarian?
Question: Can a teenager who only eats the meat his/her parents make them eat, be considered vegetarian?
Based on what I have read, vegetarianism/veganism is NOT a diet but a lifestyle choice based on respect for animals. That if one abstains from meat for health reasons, but would eat it if it was not for the fat and cholesterol then they are not a vegetarian, but one who eats a vegetarian diet. Likewise if some one is too poor to purchase meats, but would gladly do so if they had the money (this is true for many in the third world) then they are not a vegetarian.
If we accept the above is true would it also be fair to say that when a vegetarian claims her toddler son is a vegan/vegetarian, then her statement is equally false? If a four year old is only given vegetarian food, the child has not made a choice. He can only become a vegetarian upon being offered meat and deciding not to eat it. Agree, disagree?
Every so often someone will post a hypothetical directed to vegetarians of the sort, if you were in a shipwreck and floating in a life raft and your only possible source of food was fish, would you eat the fish or starve? Universally people respond that yes, they would eat the fish instead of starve to death, but that the hypo has little bearing on their day to day decision to abstain from meat. But let’s assume such a situation did occur to someone who had become a vegetarian 10 years prior. And the vegetarian eat the fish, and then upon being rescued four weeks later resumed his abstention from meat. Ten years after that he tells someone he has been a vegetarian continuously for 20 years. Is he lying? Did he remain a vegetarian during the shipwrecked period or did he cease to be one?
The shipwreck hypo is truly a rare event. The next hypo is not.
Assume a 13-year old girl wants to be a vegetarian, in fact she would prefer to be vegan. Her parents, however, strongly oppose such action. So she eats the least amount of meat possible in her situation. At dinner she takes the smallest piece of chicken that is in the bowl and then loads up on steamed veggies. She gets away with this because none of her sibling mind having less steamed veggies. When dinners is spaghetti and meatballs, she tries to get as much spaghetti and as little meatballs as possible. She has asked her mom if she can make her own lunches for school and mom has said no. So when she gets a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch she trades it with a friend for a PBJ one. At restaurants she always orders something veggy. When it is her choice she chooses veggy, but being 13 it is not always her choice.
Assuming you are okay with our fishing eating shipwreck survivor claiming he has been a vegetarian for twenty years, would it not also be fair to call this teenage girl who does not eat meat unless her parents make her also a vegetarian?
Kitkat – I would say that a 4 year-old who eats meat and veggys is an omnivore, a 4 year old child who is fed only veggy is a herbivore, but not a vegetarian.

I believe the argument you are making is whether or not “intent” to be vegetarian is enough if one has no control over the “non-veggie” forces in his/her life?
If that is what you arguing— I would say “Yes”.
Good questions and will likely prove the black & white fanatics on here some trouble. It will be interesting to see how “Free Range Mikey” (Mike H.) weighs in on this one….LMAO.

I’m a raw food vegan. My family and friends hate it. They always say stuff like we can’t go anywhere with you and why do you make things so difficult.
Also my mom is always trying to tell me I need more protein or how food is better cooked.
I’m just so tired of hearing it. On one side of the coin people say eat more fruit and vegetables and then when you do they tell you to eat more meat and cook your food. I’m really just tired of other peoples opinions. I have been a raw vegan for 3 years now and have NEVER FELT OR LOOKED BETTER IN MY WHOLE LIFE.
I think everyone else is just jealous that they can’t eat and look as good as me! My friends are always asking what I’m eating and how I stay in shape. LOL…while they eat there double cheese burger.

If my husband is allergic to shrimp, should I eat them?
Question: If my husband is allergic to shrimp, should I eat them?
I’m 15 weeks pregnant and the doctors office isn’t open today to ask them so I though I’d just ask you all what you’ve heard.
My husband and his father are both allergic to shrimp. I was reading an article on what you should and shouldn’t eat (myth vs. fact) when pregnant. Two myths were shellfish and peanuts/peanut butter but then it went on to say that they were OK to eat “unless your family has a history of allergies to these foods”. Of course, I just happened to read this after a lovely fried shrimp lunch! I’ve also had shrimp several times over the last few months because it is on the “safe fish” list. I informed my doctor at my initial appointment that he was allergic to shrimp but nothing was said to me about not eating it. I was just told not to put another piece of tuna in my mouth until after the baby was born.
So, have you heard anything about avoiding foods if there is a family allergy to them?
I’m thinking of a hereditary allergy that the baby may inherit from his dad’s side of the family.

As long as it is cooked then I dont see the problem. You mainly arent suppose to eat like shark and stuff bc of the mercury in it. I eat tuna fish I put it on sandwiches and all, I have never heard that you cant eat tuna while pregnant.
